Amazing San Francisco Street Art. What’s Your Expression?

By L.L. Barkat 12 Comments

As part of an 11-day poetry tour, I recently made a stop in San Francisco. (More to come on that later, complete with wearable cat ears that can read your mind!).

Walking past this amazing street art on the way to a Mischief Café, I couldn’t help but think of my dear friend Claire Burge, who is hosting a global conversation on creativity. She hopes to highlight street art in the process.

While I was hungry and in need of dinner, I swapped the time out for this instead: photographing art to show Claire, because I know her love for artists and art of all kinds.

Walk with me now and I’ll show you, too? (And be sure to check in on the Expressions Project as it gets going. I’m quite sure it will sate a certain kind of hunger in you.)

I wished you’d been there with me. We could have spent hours just looking, just taking it in. So much vibrance.

Some of the best I’ve seen.

Street art has gained immensely in credibility as an art form. Entire books are being written about it. And it’s found the world over.

Any favorite book on the subject?

Art in the public square seems right to me.

That first image in the body of the piece – the one with the leaves on the uppermost edge – I stared at it, left, came back, stared some more. By doggies, it is a building and the photographer is looking up, right? I thought it was stairs! Look at it like you’re waking into an enchanted room, filled with wonder…

Depth, angles, color, shading, perspective, and insight each go a long way to flavor interpretation, imagination.

It *is* a building. Pretty cool, huh?

I can see your imagination turning. I wonder now about a mural in the Darlene S. home 🙂

I wonder about one too! We have 12′ high ceilings. A lot of possibility.

          Oooo. Yes please.

(My aunt did one wall in her house as a full mural that seems to look out to the sea. I’ve always loved.)

What a filling dinner that must have been for you, L.L. Wonderful collection. Thank you. (And I was caught by Darlene’s choice, too. Spectacular.)
