A Simple Idea for Your Poetry Practice
It’s the small things that add up to a way of life.
So it goes with your poetry practice, too. You needn’t always be taking big steps to develop a meaningful, life-altering practice. While it can be inspiring to engage in activities like simple collage, mandala-making, or bookmarking, we also love this simplest of ideas. Why?
Because whatever is super simple is more likely to become part of your everyday practice.
Notebooking your favorite lines from your daily poetry reading is a great way to save your faves and engage with the poems. You might notice that the act of choosing lines is in itself a kind of simple study. The attention you give to the lines as you choose and then copy them stirs the heart, mind, and soul.
Here are some lines we saved that we later turned into bookmarks. And we’ve got plans for more of the saved lines, too. In time. But while we’re in a busy season, notebooking is the best. It’s easy. Quick. And centering.
Try It: Notebook Your Faves
Get a small journal or notebook that feels peaceful and inviting. As you read poetry each week (try Every Day Poems for an easy way to find the best!), choose a line or two to copy into your notebook. Whatever the month and year is when you start, note it. That way you can come back to it with a celebratory activity later on, to process the year.

I look forward to seeing yours, Bethany. (And I really do just love seeing people’s handwriting. 🙂 There’s just something tender and beautiful about it. )
