Mark the Mammoth Celebrates Poetry at Work Day

By Will Willingham 7 Comments

We’ll have a full wrap-up here tomorrow on all the serious fun that was our 2015 Poetry at Work Day celebration. But today we want to put the spotlight on one warm and woolly fellow who faithfully tweeted poems from work all day long. Mark the Mammoth is the mascot of the Chemung County Historical Society in Elmira, NY. It somehow does not surprise us that Elmira was a town Mark Twain spent more than little time in.

Enjoy the work of up and coming poet Mark the Mammoth. (And cross your fingers he doesn’t get into too much trouble with his boss for writing poems instead of doing his usual mammoth duties for the day.)

I used to be a claims adjuster, helping people and insurance companies make sense of loss. Now, I train other folks with ladders and tape measures to go and do likewise. Sometimes, when I’m not scaling small buildings or crunching numbers with my bare hands, I read Keats upside down. My first novel is Adjustments.

I do believe there is a poet-to-be behind the mammoth. These were so fun. Some even oddly poignant. Mark the Mammoth made my Poetry at Work Day! 🙂

Oh, what fun! So happy you joined in the celebration.

Children would love a book of rhymes featuring a mammoth.

Mark, hope to see you around here more than once a year. Your poetry is delightful. Come play with words again soon. You bring good things to the poetry party.
