Poetry Prompt: Heart & Soul

By T.S. Poetry 5 Comments

red roses heart and soul

Heart and Soul

The first singer to record “Heart and Soul,” which became a No. 1 hit in 1939, was Bea Wain.

But the song didn’t stop there. Many others recorded it later, including Ella Fitzgerald, Hoagy Carmichael, Crystal Gayle, and more.

You can even enjoy modern interpretations like this fun mashup that manages to include a lollipop… !

Do you have a favorite rendition of the song? Feel free to share it with us in the comments!

Poetry Prompt: Heart and Soul

What have you fallen in love with heart and soul? It needn’t be a person. It can be anything that’s brought magic or thrill to your life. Pen a poem to what you’ve fallen in love with (we love poetry, for instance! 🙂 ). Use the phrase “heart and soul” somewhere in your poem.

I wear my soul on my shoulder sleeve
But my heart is tucked beneath, soothed on a bed of rose petals.

My soul perceives, decides, avoids, accepts according to its pleasure, a pleasure derived from wise observation and past experiences.

Only what my soul deems worthy will ever be invited, permitted to enter the resting place, my bed of rose petals.

Jann, this is lovely. What a beautiful image, to think of the heart as tucked into a “bed of rose petals.”

    A Habitat for Thee

May the space within my soul
Be to Thee an empty bowl
May You cause all hate to cease
That Your new home would be at peace

May the space within my will
Wait for you so ever still
That my will succumbs to Thee
So Your ways means more to me
And not retake what’s truly Yours
Or choose to open selfish doors

May the space inside my mind
Be so calm that You will find
Room to sit and be with me
    Once tangled thoughts, forever free

    And where emotions always rise
May there be room for You the prize
And not revert to my own ways
But sense Your feelings all my days

And may the space within my heart
Be so deep it needs a chart
That love for you would make more room
And cause my life to be perfume
For a world that needs to see
You inside a life that’s free

Bill, I especially like “That love for you would make more room…”

True love creates a circle of welcoming for our souls and the souls of others.

Thanks for sharing your thoughtful poem!
