Community Mandalas

Last month, we invited you to try a mandala activity for the Every Day Poems poetry club. And today we want to share two mandalas from the community.

The first is a beautiful, colorful mandala created by Bethany R, featuring pen and paint and photographed using the simple collage approach.

The second, by Laura Boggess, was created using ink and watercolor—as a gift for a friend. (Lucky friend. 🙂 )

What’s Next? December Poetry Club Prompt

Your December poetry club activity is to create a Wish List poem, using a line from an Every Day Poems poem as your title or as your final line. If you need ideas for lines, check out your community Dip Into Poetry picks.

If you like, pen your Wish List poem onto a special piece of paper, tie it up with a ribbon, and then open it on New Year’s Day to read it to yourself or to friends and family.

Sample Wish List Poem

We created the following Wish List Poem using a line from Naomi Shihab Nye’s Boy and Egg as our poem title:

Riveted to the secret of birds,

I wish for wings
and hidden things like
turquoise eggs upon
a nest, a gathering
of feathers
that bring soft rest
to my soul, and the souls
of those I meet.

If only the birds
would scatter secrets
as they soar,
I’d wish the secrets
into seeds of love
and comfort,
beauty, and a world

that would give
more than it takes.

This is my humble list.
Dear poem,
make it
real.

    What a beautiful poem!

    “If only the birds
    would scatter secrets
    as they soar,
    I’d wish the secrets
    into seeds of love
    and comfort . . .”

Thanks for sharing my mandala. I just love Laura’s! What a work of art.
