5 Delicious Ways to Celebrate Poet in a Cupcake Day!

By Will Willingham 1 Comment

Today is Poet in a Cupcake Day, a delicious way to cap off the first week of National Poetry Month and the last day of Take Your Poet to School Week.

Of course, we don’t believe for a second that there’s only one day that’s good for cupcakes. And for goodness sake, many poets love to go to school all year long. So whether you’re celebrating today, or getting ready to celebrate next week, or the week after, here are 5 sumptuously fun ways to celebrate Poet in a Cupcake Day.

1. The Obvious: Bake Some Cupcakes!

Bake a tin full of delicious cupcakes. Decorate with frosting and sprinkles and finish off with a poet on a popsicle stick or toothpick. (We’ve got a giant collection of cut ‘n color poets, or print out a picture of your own.)

2. The Extra Effort: Create Poet-Themed Cupakes

Do some research on a favorite poet or two and create themed poet cupcakes. Check out some fun ideas on our printable page.

3. The Gluten Free: Decorate a Cut ‘n Color Cupcake

Short on baking time, or looking for a healthier option? Download and print our cut ‘n color cupcake pattern and decorate with crayons, magic markers or paint, with glitter, sequins, maybe even googly eyes. Slide in your poet-on-a-stick and you’re good to go!Poet in a Cupcake Day Printable

4. The Social: Share Your Cupcakes

Some poets more than others like to socialize. While still respecting the introverts among your cupcakes, bring decorated treats to school (or work—a lot of poets love to work really hard) and share with all your friends.

5. The Secret: Hide a Poem

For an extra fun surprise, tuck a poem (or a line from a poem) under your cupcake. Once they’re done licking their fingers, your students or classmates will be tickled to find the poem.

Today, next week, or the week after—share your sweet poet treats with us on Twitter or Instagram with an @tspoetry (use the hashtag #poettoschool). We’ll be watching for you, and might feature your fun! (And check out more great Take Your Poet to School ideas.)

Still waiting for someone to bake me a chocolate cupcake. (Nudging my eldest on this. The night is still young. 😉 )
