At their root, holidays are meant to create sacred spaces and shared experiences. We don’t always find that to be the case, but the potential is there.
On a day like Christmas, gifts are the center, and ultimately can act as symbols of the deeper gift of sacred space and sharing.
Share your favorite “gift poem” in the comment box. Or pen your own gift poem today. We look forward to the sacred space your words might create in our hearts.

Laura Brown says
Christmas Night
Unpacking the dominoes
for Mexican train,
the youngest Brown
sets the orange
gamepiece where my
train will be.
Six play fiercely
while the seventh
peels an orange,
hands over segments
when she sees
each hungry glance.
Four rinds stacked
on a napkin.
The elderly aunt
wins two rounds.
Time for pie:
apple or pumpkin?
Yes.
