Postcards from Burrow & Meadow · No. 4 Seeing

By Bethany Rohde 6 Comments

Greetings From Burrow & Meadow postcard

Hello again!

Lately, I’ve been struggling to find a writing path through my tumbling jumble of words and ideas. Have you experienced this? It’s like trying to read a deck of cards while someone’s shuffling it.

Last night, I was stopped by the twilight view out my window. A completely clear cobalt blue filled the air from the glass pane, all the way to three evergreen tops in the distance. No sheer curtain of rain or fog to filter the solid black edges of three tree tips against a blue glow. That same hue as gas burning under a kettle.

I was caught in the snap of awe. I’d forgotten what clarity felt like. I had a simple idea and didn’t question it—I would share this with you.

Warmly,
Bethany

Bethany Rohde's poetry and prose may be found in such places as: Mothers Always Write, Every Day Poems, and the e-book, Casual, published by T.S. Poetry Press. If she could spend her coffee break anywhere in the world, it would be in the imagined place she used to draw as a kid (and still does). She'd lean back against the smooth trunk of a shade tree surrounded by undulating, grassy hills and watch the sway and flow of the blades.

Well, this was a breath of fresh air. Or evergreens–I think I can even catch a whiff of them. A snap of awe indeed.

What a sensory, centering treat. Even visually: the postcard. There I am, scrolling Twitter, not realizing I was actually checking my mail. 🙂

Trying to read a deck of cards while someone’s shuffling it is the perfect image. I know that. I know it exactly.

Rebecca, thank you! So kind of you to take the time to read this and let me know your reaction—a treat for me.

Raising a coffee mug in solidarity as we make our way through the shuffle!

I’m happy that, through writing, I get to save this little moment to revisit later. (This is one of my favorite aspects of writing. Collecting a tin of sweets in my pocket for when I need them and might have otherwise forgot.)

Thank you for welcoming my words here, L.L.
